A team of surgeons at Walailak University Hospital has successfully removed a massive tumor from an 87-year-old patient. The tumor, which had rapidly grown over the past five years, was located at the back of the patient’s lower neck and had begun to interfere with his daily life.
The patient’s caregiver had initially sought advice from doctors at a public hospital. Upon examination, the doctors recommended that the patient be referred to a hospital with the expertise to perform such a complex surgery. The caregiver then brought the patient to Walailak University Hospital.
After a thorough evaluation, the surgical team at Walailak University Hospital advised that immediate surgery was necessary, despite the patient’s advanced age. The medical team explained the risks associated with anesthesia and the post-operative care required, ensuring that both the patient and his caregiver fully understood and consented to the procedure.
The surgery was a complete success. The tumor, which measured 30 centimeters in diameter and weighed approximately 4 kilograms, was safely removed. The patient’s surgical wound is healing well.
Walailak University Hospital emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention early when faced with any abnormal growth or mass, regardless of its location. Ignoring such abnormalities can lead to more serious complications. If you notice any unusual changes in your body, it is essential to consult a doctor promptly.
