A team of plastic surgeons at Walailak University Hospital has successfully treated a complex case of a chronic bedsore on the tailbone (coccyx) of a spinal cord injury patient. The patient, who had been bedridden for a long time, developed a severe infection and abscess due to prolonged pressure on the area.
The surgical team employed advanced techniques to manage the wound, including the removal of infected tissue, excision of the damaged tailbone, and muscle repositioning. To close the wound, the surgeons utilized surrounding tissues in a repair procedure.
The patient’s condition is improving rapidly, with the wound expected to fully heal within two weeks after the removal of stitches. In addition to the surgery, the medical team has provided comprehensive care guidelines to prevent recurrence of bedsores and improve the patient’s overall quality of life.
This successful treatment highlights Walailak University Hospital’s commitment to providing advanced care for complex medical conditions.
